Wild Hearts - Carneddau ponies,Gathering
They stand together in the dark of the trees, pale against the shadow, watching. There is something prehistoric about the Carneddau in low light — as though time has folded and you are seeing something that has always been here, long before the paths were made.
Found only on the high slopes of Snowdonia, this is one of Britain's rarest and most ancient breeds. This image was made during the Wild Hearts project — six years bearing witness to all thirteen of Britain's rare native horse breeds before their stories quietly disappear.
Printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag archival paper, hand signed, numbered, and packaged by me before it leaves for its new home.
