Timeless Fine Art photography Commissions

Where the Spirit of Your Horse Becomes Art

Your horse's spirit deserves to be captured in art that reflects their beauty, strength, and soul.

I create timeless fine art portraits for devoted horse owners who want to celebrate their horse's individuality and presence. Each commission begins with an intimate photography session where I capture the essence of your horse - their character, elegance, and the unique spirit that makes them so special.

This isn't just photography; it's about honouring your horse and creating gallery-quality artwork you'll treasure for life.

Why commission fine art of your horse?

Your Horse Deserves to Be Celebrated

Your horse isn't just part of your story, they have their own character, presence, and spirit that deserves to be honoured. Fine art equine portraiture celebrates your horse for who they truly are: their strength, their gentleness, their unique personality, and the quiet grace they carry.

This is about more than capturing a moment, it's about creating a lasting tribute to a soul who has touched your life deeply.

The Tradition of Equine Portraiture

For centuries, horses have been immortalised in fine art. From the grand oil paintings in country estates to bronze sculptures in museum collections, equine portraiture has always honoured the horse as a subject worthy of artistic celebration.

When you commission fine art of your horse, you're continuing this timeless tradition.

Art That Transforms Your Home

Fine art horse portraits aren't just photographs on a wall—they're statement pieces that transform your living space. Whether displayed in your hallway, study, or living room, these artworks become conversation pieces that draw the eye and stir emotion.

Unlike standard photography, fine art is designed to be displayed, to hold its own in your home as a piece you'll admire every single day, just as you admire your horse.

Capturing Essence, Not Just Appearance

When you're in the photograph with your horse, the focus naturally splits, it becomes about the relationship, the moment, the interaction. While this is beautiful in its own right, it's a different kind of image.

Horse-only fine art allows me to focus entirely on who your horse is: the gleam in their eye, the arch of their neck, the power in their stance, the softness in their expression. It's portraiture in its purest form, uninterrupted, undistracted, wholly devoted to capturing your horse's beauty, heart, and soul.

A Timeless Legacy

Our horses give us so much, partnership, joy, comfort, purpose. Commissioning fine art is a way to honour that gift. It's a piece that will outlive trends, that can be passed down through generations, that tells future family members: "This horse mattered. This horse was loved."

Whether your horse is young and full of fire, steady and wise in their prime, or older and deserving of tribute, fine art captures their legacy in a way that will endure.

You're Not Excluded—You're the Curator

When you commission fine art of your horse, you're not absent from the story, you're the one who made it possible. You're the curator, the patron, the devoted owner who said, "My horse deserves to be celebrated as art."

Every time you look at that piece on your wall, you'll feel the love, the pride, and the deep connection you share. The artwork becomes a reflection of your devotion to them.

How we Work Together

Each commission begins with a heartfelt conversation about your horse and the bond you share. From there, I guide you through a gentle, creative process to design a piece that reflects their true essence. Whether it’s a fine art portrait or a soulful scene inspired by your connection, every detail is crafted with care to create something you’ll treasure forever. See below how we work together.

Your artwork journey begins with a phone call, where we’ll explore your vision for the final piece and the unique personality of your horse.

I work across three mediums, all beginning with traditional photography: fine art prints, original cyanotype prints, and photo-encaustic artworks created using a blend of oil paint, beeswax, and photography. Each technique offers its own expressive beauty and is available in a range of sizes and budgets.

Once you’ve chosen your preferred style and size, we’ll schedule your photography day and pencil in a date.

You can choose to pay in full, secure your booking with a deposit and pay the balance a week before the photography day, or spread the cost over 6 months.

Your Vision, Our Collaboration
Every commission is a unique and collaborative journey. Your input is invaluable throughout, ensuring the final artwork perfectly reflects your horse and the love you share.

01 / Your Vision

02 / CREATive Process

Create: A Day Dedicated to Your Horse

Your photography day is all about celebrating your horse and the connection you share. The session lasts around two hours and is designed to be relaxed and enjoyable, allowing your horse’s true spirit to shine.

We’ll begin at the stable, capturing a series of classic, emotive portraits against dark backgrounds using both studio and natural light. Then we’ll head outdoors to a location that holds meaning for you — perhaps your horse’s favourite field — to capture them in their natural element.

These photographs form the foundation of your artwork. Over the following weeks, I’ll carefully edit your photographs in preparation for your art consultation.

03 / Art Consultation

Two weeks after your photography session, we’ll meet for your art consultation, either virtually or in person. Together, we’ll review your edited collection and choose your favourite image to transform into your chosen medium — cyanotype, encaustic artwork, or fine art print — all beautifully framed with archival, museum-grade materials designed to last a lifetime.

Once your selection is made, the creative magic begins. Over the next 4–6 weeks, I’ll bring your artwork to life in my studio, keeping you updated with behind-the-scenes glimpses of the process.

During your consultation, you’ll also have the opportunity to purchase additional pieces and enjoy a 10% discount on any extra artwork.

04 / DELIVERY

Before leaving my studio, each artwork is signed, quality-checked, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Your bespoke piece will be ready approximately 6–8 weeks after your consultation. If you’re in the UK, I’ll do my best to deliver it personally. Otherwise, it will be securely shipped via insured courier or Royal Mail.

Each piece is created to be cherished for a lifetime, its beauty and meaning deepening with every passing year.

Beyond your commission

Your photography session opens the door to a world of possibilities. Many clients choose to transform their images into extraordinary fine art pieces using traditional and alternative processes.

I work using three mediums all starting with traditional photography, beautiful original Cyanotype prints and encaustic artworks using a mixture of oil painting, beeswax and hand printed fine art photography prints each medium creates unique expressive artworks and are all available in different sizes and budgets.

CYANOTYPes

Cyanotypes are one of the oldest photographic printing processes in the history of photography, known as one of the alternative printing processes. Using hand coated light sensitive papers and sunlight the results are really beautiful prints. No two Cyanotypes are the same giving them a very special uniqueness just like your horse. The distinctive features of the print is its wonderful shade of prussian blue and all the natural tones you can create using natural pigments. They make truly beautiful eye catching artwork for your home

Photo-Encaustics

Encaustic artwork is one-of-a-kind original artwork using photography, beeswax, dammar resin and oil paints. The final artwork is a beautiful piece which shimmers in the light with texture, depth and emotion:

Every commission is a heartfelt collaboration, created to celebrate the bond you share with your horse. If you feel ready to begin your own artwork journey, I’d love to hear from you and start planning something truly special together.

FAQ

  • My most popular locations where I am commissioned regularly to photograph clients’ horses are Lancashire, Manchester, Cheshire and Yorkshire which is near my studio in the North West Pennines, however, I am happy to travel to other areas of the UK

  • I do have availability for a limited number of international commissions, it is recommended that you book at least 3 - 6 months in advance for international commissions to ensure my availability.

  • Over the last 15 years, I have worked with many horses. All with big personalities, quirks and charms! I love photographing all horses and have lots of patience and I have developed some tricks and tools when working with horses so there’s no need to worry!

  • Our British weather is very unpredictable, I always do a weather check a few days before the commission, if it’s forecast to be wet and muddy then I always recommend that with reschedule the photography commission. If we suddenly have a sudden downpour on the morning of the commission and it looks like it’s here to stay then I always ask my clients to message me to let me know before I set off, and we will reschedule to a sunnier day.

  • I often get clients worried that their yard is not pretty enough, not large enough and not right for a fine art photography commission. Please do not worry, we will have lots of planning conversations, you don’t need large green spaces on your yard to make your photographs beautiful, I have never been to a yard which I am not able to create beautiful photographs. You also have the option to travel with your horse to a special location too if you prefer.

  • Whilst my priority is to create beautiful printed artwork for my clients that they will love for a lifetime, all artworks, albums and prints which are purchased come with digital copies of the photographs.
