A beautiful introduction to creating your own artwork.
These workshops offer a gentle, guided introduction to making art, through photography and a hands-on creative process, in some of the most beautiful landscapes Britain has to offer. No experience needed, and no pressure to get it "right." Just a relaxed, immersive morning, led every step of the way, finishing with a genuine piece of artwork you've created yourself.
Each session is kept small, so there's real time and attention for everyone. Most mornings end with cake and a cup of tea together, a lovely, unhurried close to a lovely experience.

Where These Workshops Happen
Discovery Workshops travel to wherever there's something beautiful to create from, moorland, flower farms, florists' studios, and the company of rare and beautiful horses. Each location shapes its own experience:
On the Moor — cyanotype created directly from the landscape, using peat water and plants gathered along the way
Among the Flowers — botanical cyanotype sessions hosted at flower farms and florists, using blooms fresh from the field
With the Horses — a gentle introduction to photographing native and rare breed horses, guided and beginner-friendly
In the Studio — hands-on photo-encaustic sessions, transforming a photograph into a finished piece using wax and heat
Wherever the setting, the format stays the same: small groups, relaxed pace, and a genuine piece of artwork to take home.

CYANOTYPE DISCOVERY WORKSHOP
Art on the moor
A slower way to spend a morning, creating something real, outdoors, with your own hands.
These workshops are for anyone who's curious about cyanotype, whatever their experience. No art background needed, no pressure to produce anything in particular. Just a beautiful place, a simple process, and a small group of people making something together.
What to Expect
Each workshop is small, unhurried, and led step by step, from your first exposure to a finished piece you'll take home. You'll learn the basics of cyanotype using the landscape itself as material, working with plants, light, and water from the very ground you're standing on. Everything you need is provided. All you need to bring is curiosity, suitable outdoor clothing, and a sense of adventure.
Most mornings end with cake and a cup of tea together, a nice, natural close to the session rather than a rush to pack up and go.
Please note: this workshop takes place outdoors on Saddleworth Moor, including a short walk down a steep, uneven path to reach the location. Sturdy footwear is recommended, and there are no toilets nearby.

MEET Esther
I’ve been photographing horses for over 20 years. They are my passion and drive for my photography artwork.
I’ve been photographing horses for over 20 years and have been a professional fine art equine photographer for the last 10 years. My passion for horses and photography has enabled me to travel far and wide photographing wild, rare and domestic horses to create limited edition prints and commissions for horse owners, art collectors and commercial brands.
One of the ways I create my artwork is using a lovely technique called encaustics that uses beeswax and dammar resin as a medium to encapsulate fine art photography printed on different papers, adding texture, natural elements, and paint to create a one-of-a-kind emotive artwork that is full of texture and tones.
I love working with melted beeswax in the studio. As part of my fine art equine photography practice, each photo-encaustic piece's texture and refracted light have an ethereal feel. This ever-evolving creative process gives my work a deeper connection to the natural world, using nature’s gift of beeswax. My photo-encaustic artwork has been displayed in gallery exhibitions and purchased by art collectors across the UK. Horse owners also commission me to create one-of-a-kind artwork for their horses. This beautiful process has given my work a new creative, emotive depth. It has allowed me to use my photography and add a unique, expressive feel, which I wish to share with other photographers so they can experiment with and use within their photography practice to create their own artwork inspired by horses and encaustics.
